The Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg

Founded in 1974, the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg (OCL) is one of the most active and innovative musical entities of the Grand Duchy. Composed of around forty musicians constantly striving for the highest artistic excellence, it is dedicated to performing the rich chamber orchestra repertoire, ranging from the Baroque period to contemporary creation. The OCL has notably developed under the leadership of figures such as Pierre Cao, David Reiland, Jean Muller, and Corinna Niemeyer.

Deeply implicated in the local scene, the OCL performs in all the major Luxembourg venues: the Philharmonie, the Grand Theatre of the City of Luxembourg, Cercle Cité, regional cultural centres, Escher Theater, Rockhal etc. Equally at home internationally, the OCL is regularly invited to perform in the Greater Region and beyond. One should mention in this connection its numerous collaborations with the Opéra-Théâtre of Metz and, for the 2022-2023 season, its debut at the Opéra Comique in Paris in L’Inondation by Francesco Filidei.

The OCL performs alongside both Luxembourgish and international artists, ranging from emerging talents to leading figures. In recent seasons, it has been conducted by maestros such as Leonhard Garms, Duncan Ward, Marie Jacquot, Chloé van Soeterstède, Naomi Woo, and Joseph Bastian, and has accompanied soloists including tenor Ian Bostridge, violinists Anna Göckel and Alena Baeva, clarinetist Daniel Ottensamer, pianist Joseph Moog, and flautist Hélène Boulègue.

This orchestra’s constantly renewed passion for dialogue between different arts and genres inspires numerous original and multi-disciplinary projects, whether instrumental, vocal or choreographic. The creation of performances with the Ballet of the Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, the choir of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Spellbound Contemporary Ballet, the Birmingham Royal Ballet, or Nomad the Group, illustrate the diversity of its artistic collaborations.

Composed of musicians deeply committed to sharing their passion with young people, the OCL contributes to promoting excellence in music education within the country. In this regard, it supports young award-winning artists each year, enjoys holding residencies at educational institutions, and regularly offers educational programs in schools, training programs for orchestra musicians, and "side by side" projects with music schools across the Grand Duchy... Additionally, it initiated the Anne and Françoise Groben Prize, a competition that gives young Luxembourgish musicians the opportunity to express their talent.

The OCL thanks the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth and the City of Luxembourg for their support. The Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg is under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke.
