EN – Plunge into the midst of a comedy mixing plot twists, false marriages and contagious laughter, in the opera buffa Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti. Angry at the love that his nephew Ernesto bears for Norina, a penniless young woman, the rich and elderly bachelor Don Pasquale decides to marry in order to disinherit him. However, his trusted friend Malatesta takes the young lovers’ cause to heart and creates a trap for him. Hilarious scenes and setbacks ensue, leading Don Pasquale to regret his marriage and ultimately making him very relieved when he discovers the truth.
As much of a success today as in the past, Donizetti’s opera is one of the three great comic operas of the bel canto period. In a light and lively staging inspired by vaudeville, Caterina Panti Liberovici’s production gets to the heart of opera buffa and its characters inspired by the Commedia dell’arte. Accompanied by a small orchestra and with magnificent scenery made up of paintings by the Swiss artist Raffaela Zenoni, this production focuses on young soloists, proof of the quality and fame of the company Sequenda in the world of international opera.
